Low Dose Lithium for Neuroprotection

Lithium, taken daily in safe low doses, can protect the brain from degeneration, or reduce the damage from brain injury.  It can do this for anyone.

Evidence for this has increased over several decades.  Articles have appeared in national newspapers, writers even asking if lithium should be put in the drinking water.  Lithium in low doses is available by prescription, and over-the-counter.  Yet most people don't know about it, much less what they might do to benefit.  Health professionals often have limited knowledge about when and how to use lithium.

In these pages I will show you what you can do about it, and why. I'll try to touch all the bases without your doing more reading than needed to make up your mind. Here's an outline.

1.   What qualifies me to write this?

2.  What is lithium?  What are it's main uses?

3.  The history of lithium in medicine, especially its use for bipolar disorder.

4.  Clinical experience and research open new possibilities.

5.   Some evidence, and how to find more.

6.   If this is so clear, why has so little happened thus far?

7.   Choose your goals and sketch your plan of action.
